Update on my Life - November 2014

It has been three weeks, and it still isn't real. I know he is gone, but at the same time, I know he is here.

The garage is almost empty, I gave his son all of his tools - he especially wanted them because of all the work they did together using those tools. For me, other than specific tools that Mike bought for me (and his drill), I would rather just buy myself new tools.

The kids went through the Monopoly games (he collected them)choosing the ones they wanted and the music boxes. I am waiting on deciding on what of the remaining items I want to keep.

I had to give away the majority of the cake pans because I don't think I will be making elaborate cakes in the future. That was a "him & me" hobby that I don't think I can continue by myself.

For the most part, I have been trying to get all the required paperwork & stuff done - it is simply amazing how much you have to do after someone passes. I haven't found anywhere that gives someone a true list of what you need to do when someone passes. I can find a lists that stated things you have to check out - credit cards, Social Security, cars, insurance, etc - but not a list of the more unusual things. Stuff like: Veterans benefits for wife, COBRA, transferring remaining FSA funds, etc. Maybe I should create that list....

Immediate plans for the future is buying a new smaller house and then selling this house (it is WAY to big for me and holds too many memories). After that, I don't know - maybe starting a business (though I don't know what). I so know that I probably want to find a grief group, and then maybe a church - though most churches are "too religious" for me.

Update on my life - October 2014 - Part Four

This is now, officially, the WORST year of my life!

The short story is, he fought the good fight, and in the end, he went home to heaven.

I know is was for the best, he out of pain and in our fathers arms. I know his Mom & Dad and brother, were there to meet him when he arrived.

At least 70 people from his work were at the memorial, along with our kids & my family. The memorial was wonderful, many good stories relayed to us. We ended the memorial as he had requested many times through the years, with a song from Alan Parsons Project "Old & Wise". I think that song made just about everyone break down & cry.

I know live will go on, but I miss him deeply every day

Update on my life - October 2014 - Part Three

Oh my god, he is back in the hospital! Yesterday morning after walking to the bathroom (on oxygen) his oxygen level dropped (again) to the low/mid 70s. I told him that is he didn't call 911, I was going to. He called.

Their diagnoses, respiratory distress, back to the emergency room again. I don't really remember how I got there (couldn't go in the ambulance), but they wanted to admit him to that hospital. I insisted they send him to Kaiser Modesto, and they finally gave in.

He is in Intensive Care, and has good people working for and with him. He told me to go home and come back tomorrow, so I am waiting for my step-daughter to pick me up.

I will let you know how it goes.

Update on my life - October 2014 - Part Two

And so it goes on...

Mike's lower right legs started to swell, and he went to his doctor on Friday. Doctor suspected that his water pill wasn't working anymore and started him on Lasix, and said the swelling would clear up in a day or so.

Well, the doctor was wrong - his leg continued to swell, so we went back on Monday - Again using the wheelchair. Doctor came in, looked at his leg and said "emergency room". Do we see a pattern here?

This time, it was a DVT in his leg. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot (thrombus) forms in one or more of the deep veins in your body, usually in your legs. So, back in the hospital.

They released him late Tuesday afternoon and sent him home not only with an oxygen tank, but had an Oxygen Concentrator sent to the house. This was one of his biggest fears, to be on oxygen - he Dad had been on oxygen towards the end of his life and Mike did not want to follow his Dad's footsteps.

They sent him home mainly because he had a Colonoscopy scheduled for Friday, and his rheumatologist really wanted him to have that to rule out cancer. He was barely able to make it to the Colonoscopy and they did it without anesthesia because his oxygen level was so bad. Sadly, I was not there, if I was, I would have canceled the Colonoscopy and had him admitted

we will see how this goes...

Update on my life - October 2014

Life is continuing on, sadly, following the same path

Again, Mike is slowly getting worse, though he is still going to work, I can see the tired in his eyes. He even had me sell the tickets we had to "The Eagles" concert! And he always would go see them when they played nearby.

I feel myself starting to get worried again

Update on my Life - September 2014

What a year this has been so far. I wouldn't wish this year on my worst enemy.

While lowering the amount of Prednisone my hubby was taking, his symptoms got worse and worse, to the point that he was actually worse than he was way back in April and May. He had an appointment with his rheumatologist a few days after he was down to no Prednisone, so I figured she would figure it all out.

When he went to his appointment, we had his son take a day off from work to drive him in because there was no way he could have drove himself. He even allowed me to get a wheelchair for him because he couldn't walk more than 15-20 feet.

When we got there and they took his stats, his oxygen level was 82 percent, and his blood pressure was extremely low. The doctor came in the room, seen that he was in the wheelchair, looked at his stats and said "You are going down to the Emergency room"

To make a long story short - he had Pulmonary Embolisms. Pulmonary embolism is when one or more pulmonary arteries in your lungs become blocked. He had at least 6 in each lung!

He was in the hospital over Labor Day. After he was released, he worked from home a few hours a day. By the following Monday, he was back in the office part time. Getting back to the office was a great step in his recovery - he is much happier to be able to work again.

Now, hopefully, live will get back to being its normal craziness

My old Files and links

I sold my old website, and my free files were stored there. I am working on slowly moving them to my new website, so until them, all my free files will be gone

Going forward, other than files created from cartoons, special logos, etc, my free files will only be free for a limited time, then they will be listed on my website for sale.

Update on My Life

Life threw my husband a curve ball in April. What started as his right shoulder hurting again, within a week turned in his back & shoulder hurting. He went to his chiropractor to have her work on it. Within another week, he started having cramps in his legs that made driving 25 miles to work very difficult.

About 10 days later, he wasn't able to drive anywhere - it was so bad, even the short 1 mile drive to our favorite restaurant was too much. So he started working from home, but he was getting worse & worse. I had to help him get up from the chair, and getting out of bed was almost impossible - good thing I am fairly strong, otherwise he would have been stuck in bed.

Finally, I wrote to his doctor and told him everything that has going on with my hubby. He neglected telling the doctor ALL his symptoms because he didn't think they were related. As soon as the doctor got my e-mail, he told hubby to come it the office. The doctor feared it was the start of Parkinson's. Luckly, after more teats and a visit to the rheumatologist, the suspect he has Polymyalgia rheumatica (sometimes referred to as PMR). PMR is a common cause of widespread aching and stiffness in older adults. Because PMR does not often cause swollen joints, it is hard to recognize.

We won't know if it is truly PMR or another related disease until he has lowered his dose of Prednisone to under 10mg.

So, I have been dealing with his medical problems for the last 8 weeks and FINALLY am able to get back to making cut files, scrapbooking and all the other things I do around the house - including training our dogs.

I have decided that rather that post a bunch of cut files at one time around special days/holidays, I will start to post at least 2 cut-files a week - probably on Mondays & Fridays - Starting on Friday June 20th. If you subscribe to my blog, you won't miss getting the announcements of new files.

The Cricut, Cutting Software Programs and Cut Files

So you wanted to know about using your Cricut with cut files you have found on the internet or on websites that provide cut files that work with their stamps. Well, good news and bad news - good news is yes you can BUT the bad news is that you need special software to do it. Sadly, that software is not available anymore - unless you can find an older version of the software.

Short story is that Provocraft sued both the companies that created & sold the software and they had to make the software not work with the Cricut anymore. So, unless you can find an older version of Make the Cut or Sure Cuts a Lot you won't be able to use cut files with your Cricut.

Details on Sure Cuts a Lot - Version 1 and 2 of Sure Cuts A Lot are compatible with the Cricut Personal, Cricut Expression, Cricut Create and Cricut Cake machines provided you have a compatible fimrware version on the Cricut machine.

Details on Make the Cut - The last version that will work with the Cricut is 3.2.1, BUT it had to be downloaded before March 16.
